Food Allergy (IgE) Compared to Food Sensitivity (IgG)
IgE and IgG are both types of antibodies produced by the immune system. IgE (immunoglobulin E) is primarily involved in allergic reactions, while IgG (immunoglobulin G) is involved in more general immune defense against infections. IgE levels are typically measured through a blood test to diagnose allergies or to monitor the effectiveness of allergy treatment. IgG tests, on the other hand, are often used to diagnose infections or to determine if a person has been previously exposed to a particular pathogen. Unlike IgE, which is found in small amounts in the blood, IgG is the most abundant type of antibody and is found in higher levels in the blood. The results of IgE and IgG tests are typically interpreted in conjunction with other clinical information and are used to guide treatment decisions.
IgE Food Allergy (Immediate Response)
A food allergy is when the immune system produces specific IgE antibodies. These antibodies typically lead to an immediate allergic reaction that may even be life threatening. Within seconds or minutes of eating a trigger food, the symptoms appear instantly and may include severe swelling, breathing difficulty, rash, itching skin or even anaphylactic shock. Many allergies are mild and only manifest themselves intermittently, when the body experiences exposure to multiple allergens at the same time.

IgG Food Sensitivity (Delayed Response)
A food sensitivity, sometimes called intolerance, is when the immune system produces specific IgG antibodies. These antibodies can lead to an inflammatory process and take up to three days after the consumption of a trigger food to manifest discernable physical symptoms. Use your food sensitivity test results as a guide to start a targeted temporary elimination diet to help eliminate or reduce your symptoms.
